Coastguard Waiuku was formed in 1973 and covers the Waikato River up as far as Huntly, Waikato River Bar, the West Coast up to 12 nautical miles out, and the Manukau Harbour and bar.
New Zealand Steel has provided long-standing support to enable a rescue vessel to operate in the waters surrounding the local area.
